For more than ten years, Smarthands Services ran on Job**er. A decade on one system is a decade of habits: where the schedule lives, how an invoice gets made, which screen you check before the first coffee. Contractors don't tend to leave software like that over a feature list, but they do when when the idea of what software is supposed to be has changed underneath them.

That's what happened to the team in Pasadena.

The name says most of it. Smart hands. Smarthands is an IT and security company, and the work is more physical than the category suggests: pulling cable through a drop ceiling, mounting a camera so it actually covers the door, terminating a jack behind a rack, three sites before lunch. The value is in the hands, and in the judgment that tells the hands what to do next. Everything else is overhead.

For twenty years, field service software has been built on one quiet assumption. The work happens in the field, and the business happens at a desk. Somebody, usually the owner after dark, sits down and types the day back into existence.

Smarthands wanted the inverse. Not software you sit down to, software you talk to.

“A few weeks in, I was using my voice for almost everything in Onsite,” Gabe says.

That's why they switched. Onsite is AI-native, which in practice means you ask for what you need in plain words and the system does the work. The keyboard stops being the bottleneck. For a team whose entire trade is hands, that changes what a working day feels like. The evening hours that used to belong to data entry start belonging to the people who earned them.

They cared about something less glamorous, too. On Jo**er, the books lived somewhere else, which meant the money lived in two places and someone had to keep the two honest with each other. With Onsite, accounting is built in. One system knows what was booked, what was done, and what was paid. Fewer places for a number to go wrong is its own kind of craftsmanship, the office version of measuring twice.

The results came fast. When they onboarded in June, and ran 15 jobs through Onsite. By September, they ran 36. More than double in three months, in the same trade, in the same city, with the same hands. We don't think the software did that work. The team did the work. The software stopped taking work away from them.

Smarthands is on track to test Onsite on Meta AI glasses, part of the work we've been doing since Onsite received a Meta AI Glasses Impact Grant. The picture we're building toward is simple. A tech on a ladder with both hands on the work, pulling up the customer's history, logging the repair, and sending the invoice without climbing down to dig a phone out of a pocket. Not a person replaced by a machine. A person who never has to put the tool down.

That's the distinction we build around. Smart hands aren't hands made unnecessary. They're hands freed from the keyboard, the clipboard, and the late night catch-up, so they can do what no model will do for a long time: feel a connector seat with a click, angle a camera until the blind spot disappears, know by the lights on the switch whether the job is actually done.

After ten years spent working around their software, the next ten can be spent where it matters: in front of their customer saving the day.
